the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in

Newport city from 2003 to 2012.

The given line graph presents how crime rates changed in Newport inner city over the

period from 2003 to 2012. It is noticeable that the greatest change occurred in

the number of burglaries, while the number of thefts incidents remained low and

steady.

In 2003, the Newport city's most common crime was burglary, with approximately

3,400 reported cases. The figure rose to around 3,700 in a year, but then there was

down ward trend until 2008. In 2008, the number of burglaries was just over

1,000. However, this rose slightly to 1,500 in 2009, then continued to fluctuate

between 1,200 and 1,400 for the remaining period. At the same time, the number

of cars being stolen stood at around 2,800. However, after 4 years, the number

was around 2,200. There was a marginal decrease in the following year, but

from then on, the trend was generally upwards. Last but not least, robbery

has always been a fairly minor problem in the city of Newport. The

number of offenses committed changed little over 9 years. The number of robberies in

Newport city was approximately 700 in 2003 and is the same number for 2012.
